Carrying on with the progress of the work Bob is doing, here we are at the 15th March 2005 and Bob has turned his attentions to the offisde sill. Bob has explained that it is vitally important to cut out the rot at this stage, its no good being afraid to cut out what needs replacing. The main thing is to replace the metal with the same thickness as was originally used as this will ensure the strength is maintained as per original.

This is the offside front inner wing area where the chassis from the sill goes in to the engine bay chassis rails. A plate had been put over this area hiding the truth of what was really the problem. The chassis section was none existent so Bob has grafted in the necessary metal to make up the chassis section. Bob has said the nearside will need doing as well as again someone has just tac welded a plate over "who knows what".
Looking at the same area from underneath, looks as it orignally did, i am well pleased with what Bob is achieving.
Then the front sill section, (under the wing) was shaped and welded into place.
This is the offside rear, and again Bob has been busy with the angle grinder cuttting out all the rot.
The offside sill getting the same treatment as the nearside, the inner sections being replaced and shaped as they should be.
Here is Bob busy welding on the inner sill panel, i think is he used to this by now.
And here he is measuring up for a 16 gauge strengthening piece that goes at the rear inner sill area. All important for maintaining the strength and rigidity of the car.
This the the front nearside where the sill / chassis member goes in towards the engine bay chassis rail. This is a point to watch out for again as some previous welding had hidden more rot. This is part of the chassis and its no good just putting a plate over it, Bob has welded in a 16 gauge steel box member.
This is the fished result, at least i know the strength is where it should be.
And here taken underneath the box section.
Offside rear wheel arch area, massice ammounts of metal was cut away, taking out all the rot.
Gradually it all comes back together, the inner sill panels were again rotted out.
View from front to back of the offside, new sill in place.
This is under the offside wheelarch showing the new metal in place. I think the car will weigh a bit hevier once Bob has finished.
Offside rear wheel arch from inside the car, most of the metal has been renewed here too. Certainly a place to check when looking over a PA to buy.
The offside corner of the windscreen had rotted through, here Bob has cut the rot out and in the next picture you will see the new metal in place.
Looks like new! Bob works his magic again.
Front chassis rail had rotted where they meet the front panel. New metal in the chassis rail and front crossmember makes a solid job of this.
Front cross member.
Here she is, begining to take shape. I am happy with the way the panels are fitting up.
Bob and Jeff are the one's responsible for this, nice job lads.
The door line looks good too.
Looking good and seeing daylight for the first time in months. This is a real turning point for me as she begins to look like a PA again.
